Cutting-edge Lyme disease clinic in Mexico gives new hope to sufferers

With Lyme disease now one of the fastest growing infectious diseases worldwide, a state-of-the-art lyme disease clinic called Sanoviv Medical Institute, located one hour’s drive from San Diego airport in Rosarito Beach, Mexico, is giving Lyme patients from all around the world new hope with its wide range of innovative treatments.

While Australia still doesn’t officially recognise Lyme disease, the number of Australian residents who’ve tested positive for Lyme disease is on the increase. Last year, a Senate Inquiry was held, though despite many good recommendations the Australian government has chosen not to act on these.  So until Lyme disease is recognised here, many Australians who are suffering from a ‘Lyme-like’ illness end up seeking treatment overseas where similar diseases have been treated for many years.

What is Sanoviv’s success rate for Lyme disease?

As anyone knows who’s been affected by Lyme disease, it’s a challenging illness to treat. I spoke with Sanoviv’s Medical Director and Lead Treating Physician, Dr Isaac Meza, and asked him if he had any information about Sanoviv’s success rate with Lyme disease.

“We don’t have many definitive statistics for Lyme disease because it manifests itself in so many different ways,” said Dr Meza. “Treating Lyme is not easy, but we know that in the two weeks our patients are here to address their Lyme disease, we teach them how to manage it and ultimately, we find they get better.”

“We have found 95 per cent of our patients feel a great deal of benefit from their treatment here and they go home and apply this to their lives. We do feel that we’ve helped a lot of people over the years with this disease,” he added.

Advanced and innovative therapies for Lyme disease

One of the reasons Sanoviv has managed to help a lot of people with this debilitating disease is the wide range of advanced and progressive therapies it offers. The clinic has a team of doctors who continue to research new developments, so they’re able to offer the latest treatments for their patients with Lyme disease.

As Dr Meza said: “I’ve been here at least 13 years and we are definitely a cutting-edge research centre. We travel around the world checking on new equipment and therapies. We have a team of doctors here who test new therapies to see how they work.”

“One of our most effective therapies for Lyme is Ozone Therapy with Ultraviolet Blood Irradiation,” said Dr Meza. “For this treatment we extract through a catheter, 250cc of the patient’s blood and it’s mixed with O2 and Ozone. This then passes through an ultraviolet light irradiation process, and finally returned to the body. We find this and other types of oxygen therapies to be a very effective for our Lyme patients.”

“We also do Whole Body Hyperthermia, which is a key treatment for Lyme disease,” he added. “This is where we carefully heat the whole body using precise equipment until we achieve an elevated core temperature.”

Dr Meza said the objective of hyperthermia therapy is to reproduce the beneficial effects of a fever, reaching temperatures in the range of 41 to 42ºC, then maintaining that temperature for a period of 60 to 90 minutes.  The entire treatment takes about four hours, during which time, the patient is sedated.

“We measure and monitor the body’s core temperature, heart rate, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory frequency to achieve the best therapeutic effect with minimal patient risk,” he added, this gives the patient an overall immune system stimulation as well as directly killing the targeted pathogens.

Another therapy Sanoviv offers is Intravenous Vitamin C: “We know that Vitamin C in high doses creates peroxide so we use Vitamin C to target viruses. There’s also Hyperbaric Oxygen, which is another oxidative therapy we use to enhance peroxide production.”

“We add Artesunate IVs, which effectively targets Lyme disease as well as many the co-infections,” he added.  “So it’s a multi-pronged approach that targets the chronic infection from multiple angles at the same time.

I asked Dr Meza if Sanoviv offers Stem Cell Therapy and he replied: “Yes, we do!  However, before applying stem cells, it’s important to first weaken or eliminate the Lyme infection by completing our 2-week Lyme Treatment Protocol.  Then, once the body is ready to begin healing, stem cells may be used to help rejuvenate and repair damage that has occurred due to the illness.

Large team of medical professionals

Sanoviv is able to research these new therapies because it’s staffed with a large number of medical professionals. All up, Sanoviv has 11 medical doctors (plus another 25 or more outside specialists), three certified nutritionists, two chiropractors, three licensed psychologists, three biological dentists and over a dozen nurses working at the facility.

As Dr Meza added: “We have a large team of doctors, nurses, nutritionists, chiropractors and dentists – we have over 125 employees working here at Sanoviv, including our administration and maintenance staff.”

Security at Sanoviv

In Australia, many people would wonder if Mexico could potentially be a dangerous location for a medical clinic.  But, according to Dr Meza, in the 18 years the clinic’s been open, there’s never been a security issue for any of the guests. The clinic’s located in the town of Rosarito Beach, which is a pretty town along the coastal highway, where many US residents from California have holiday homes.

“The clinic is in a very secure place because we’re very near to the US border,” said Dr Meza. “We’re only a 60 minute drive from the San Diego International Airport and we’re about a 45 minute drive from Tijuana and Ensenada airports – both in Mexico.”

“We have good access in and out of Sanoviv with high-quality roads. We have a strong security presence with high walls around our 10-acre site. We have security officers patrolling these gates and walls at all times,” he added.

“We’re right next to the ocean so there’s no wall on the ocean side. On that side, instead of a wall, there’s a 30-foot cliff down to the ocean that’s securely roped off.  There’s a security attendant at the front gate 24/7 and no one is permitted to enter unless they have a reservation or permission to enter. It’s a very safe location and all of our guests feel secure,” Dr Meza explained.

Sanoviv – an alternative holistic integrative Healthcare Centre

While Sanoviv is a specialist clinic for treating Lyme disease, it was initially set up 18 years ago as an ‘Alternative Holistic Integrative Treatment Healthcare Center’ to treat a broad range of illnesses. Patients can be treated for a range of illnesses, including cancer, neurological conditions, digestive disorders, autoimmune diseases, and many other chronic or degenerative diseases.

The hospital was set up by its visionary, Myron Wentz, Ph.D. He had the dream to create Sanoviv as a ‘one-of-a-kind’ medical facility – a place where people could go and get help for all sorts of degenerative diseases. The reason Dr Wentz was so passionate about setting up such a place is because he personally experienced these illnesses within his own family. His father died at the age of 57 from heart disease and later, his older brother, Charles, died from cancer at 66. These events inspired Dr Wentz to look at health in a different way.  He made it his life’s work to meet degenerative diseases head-on and do everything in his power to conquer them.

No newcomer to the medical field, Dr Wentz founded Gull Laboratories, where he developed a diagnostic test for the Epstein-Barr virus – a test which remains to this day the ‘gold standard’ for diagnosing the virus.   Later, he founded USANA Health Sciences – an organisation which is now well-known for supplying nutritional products in many parts of the world.

A gift to the patients

It was after achieving these major milestones that Dr Wentz decided to create Sanoviv. His aim was to set up a cutting-edge, alternative medical hospital which provided a toxin-free environment, delicious organic food, a warm caring staff, and state-of-the-art medical therapies.  This provides the perfect environment for the mind, body, and spirit to heal. Dr Wentz built Sanoviv as a gift to the patients, providing millions of his own money with no thought of ever recouping that investment.  His support, allows vital research to continue.

As Dr Meza points out, Dr Wentz’s vision behind Sanoviv is what makes Sanoviv different from any other medical facility: “I think first of all the vision behind Sanoviv is what we’re all about,” he said. “This facility is one of a kind – it’s more about helping people – it’s not about making money. I love working here because it’s the collective action of a team of people.”

Set up as the perfect, toxin-free environment

It was extremely important to Dr Wentz to set up Sanoviv to create the proper environment for healing. As Dr Meza explained: “He wanted patients to be able to listen to their body and if they’re in an environment like this, they are far more likely to be able to do that.”

To this end, Sanoviv has its own water treatment facility on-site, where the water is quadruple-filtered so patients can safely drink or bathe in pure water from any faucet. Also, the therapeutic swimming pools are filled with specially-filtered sea water, providing a safe, chlorine-free environment.

In the kitchen alone, there are up to eight cooks working on meals with all organic ingredients. There are also three nutritionists and one nutrition assistant overseeing all of the menus and patient’s special diets, ensuring patients are getting the right nutrition.

“We’re careful not to have chloride or heavy metals around our patients – even our topical items such as creams and lotions have to be free of toxins,” said Dr Meza.

“The clothes we give to our patients contain natural-fibre organic cotton, to help facilitate detoxification.  We provide sandals that help ground them to the earth. We are conscious about magnetic fields and we limit the use of Wi Fi to one or two rooms in the entire place. We even have toxin-free paint on the walls,” he added.

When the environment’s right, miracles can happen

Dr Meza said he’s found, in his 13 years working at Sanoviv, that when patients are given the combination of this healing environment, together with a wide range of innovative therapies, they just find they get better.

“When what we do here matches patients’ expectations, miracles really do happen,” Dr Meza said. “Once people start to act on managing the factors at the root of their illness, they can really make a change in their symptoms. Our patients often find they can solve their health problems by more natural means and they don’t need conventional medications.”

“We do occasionally use pharmaceuticals but we try everything else first. Sometimes we ask the patient what they’d like to do. I feel that Sanoviv is a health destination because we can all learn a lot about the balance of life. We all have our ups and downs and diseases are needed for us to be aware of working towards balance in our body,” he added.

“If your environment is not appropriate, it will activate disease in your body. Everyone’s carrying different bags of unresolved emotions and stressors.  Most people work hard, but they’re forgetting about balance. When we remind them of this, they often find the peace and release they’re looking for.”

For the thousands of Australians who find themselves suffering from a Lyme-like illness, a clinic such as Sanoviv can offer a great deal of help. This article was written by Pamela Connellan, director of patient services for a company called Lyme and Cancer Services (http://lymeandcancerservices.com), which refers people who are suffering with Lyme disease or cancer to clinics in Germany and Mexico. If you’d like more information about these specialised clinics, we can help schedule you at a clinic and connect you with others who’ve been to the same clinic. We strive to advocate for tick-borne illnesses through writing articles and speaking at conferences and support groups. The owners of LCS have also written two extensive E-books to help people both before, during and after attending a hyperthermia clinic. These E-books go over everything we believe patients would want to know about the clinics – therapies offered and additional information on recovery factors. You can reach Pamela Connellan via email at info@lymeandcancerservices.com or by telephone on 001117185362771.
